  1. Prof Ali Allawi

    Former Minister of Finance, Iraq


  2. Ali Allawi was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the London School of Economics, and Harvard University. Allawi returned to Iraq in September 2003 and was made Minister of Trade in the Interim Iraq Governing Council, followed by a year's stint as Minister of Defence. In January 2005, he was elected to Iraq's Transitional National Assembly, and three months later, was appointed Minister of Finance in the Transitional Government headed by Ibrahim al-Jaafari.

  1. Jonathan Robinson

  2. Jonathan heads the Project Finance team for HSBC in the Middle East and North Africa. He has over 15 years of experience in project finance and has previously held senior positions with PwC Securities and Export Development Corporation. Jonathan has acted as financial advisor to the Middle Eastern private sector and governments on numerous precedent setting transactions. He is presently overseeing advisory and arranging teams responsible for several large commodities, metals & mining, oil & gas, utility, and infrastructure projects.

  2. Ali Sherwani is the Head of Business Development at UK Export Finance (the new trading name of ECGD). Ali’s role is to engage with UK exporters, project sponsors, overseas borrowers and banks to understand their requirements and to work with them so that they make effective use of UK Export Finance support. Ali has held various positions within UK Export Finance including Treasury Management, Short and Medium Term Underwriting, Claims and Marketing.

He has been actively involved in setting up new businesses and in the acquisition of ongoing business, primarily in the Gulf States and the Middle East.

  2. Dr Salah Al-Sheikhly is the former Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the UK. He was formerly Associate Professor of Development Economics at Baghdad University. He was also Director of the Bureau of Statistics, Deputy Director of State Planning, and Governor of the Central Bank.

  2. Hussain is a distinguished Wall Street veteran having worked with Merrill Lynch, Citigroup, Essdar Capital and Abu Dhabi International Bank (ADIB) before he founded Phoenix Capital in 2011.
    In 2003, while at Citi Hussain was part of the team that successfully issued the debut USD 2.7 billion Iraq sovereign bond. He has also been an advisor to the UAE and Omani sovereign governments as well as private wealth funds. As Iraq Business Head at ADIB, Hussain set-up Iraq’s first foreign-owned standalone bank.

  2. Nadhim Zahawi is the Member of Parliament for Stratford-on- Avon. In 2000 he co-founded YouGov, one of the world leaders in political and business information gathering, and on flotation became its CEO. YouGov employs over 400 staff on three continents and is listed on the London Stock Exchange. In 2008 he was named Ernst & Young’s entrepreneur of the year.
